Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has restored power to most of the areas in the Klang Valley that were affected by blackouts caused by flash floods.
However, the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation, Impiana Hotel and Menara Perak remain affected by the power outage.
“As of 10pm, power has been restored in stages, from 6pm, for 37 areas in Kuala Lumpur.
“The list of areas that are still affected due to the power outage by TNB for the safety of local consumers is as follows: Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation, Impiana Hotel and Menara Perak,” they announced in a Facebook post.
Earlier, TNB announced the shutdown of substations in 40 locations after several areas in the Klang Valley were struck by flash floods.
They said that efforts were underway to ensure electricity supply in the affected areas can be channelled in stages, depending on access and local conditions.
Several parts of Kuala Lumpur were struck by flash floods this evening, with the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) and Kuchai Lama especially affected.
The other areas included KL city centre, Pudu, Bukit Jalil, Kuchai Lama, Puchong and Sungai Buloh.
Hundreds evacuated
A total of 251 flood victims from two villages were evacuated to relief centres (PPS) at Dewan Sultan Sulaiman in Kampung Baru and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tamil (SKT) Saraswati in Jalan Klang Lama.
Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim said 101 flood victims from Kampung Periuk, Kampung Baru were placed at the Dewan Sultan Sulaiman PPS and 150 from Kampung Hujung Pasir, at SKT Saraswati.
Almost 300 people from 56 families were evacuated to eight temporary PPS.
“Twenty-three areas in Kuala Lumpur were flooded due to heavy rain since 3pm but the floodwaters are receding.
“Kuala Lumpur City Hall has mobilised pumps to the inundated areas and praise be to Allah, the floodwaters started to recede one hour ago," he said when met by reporters after visiting flood victims at the Dewan Sultan Sulaiman PPS.
Meanwhile, almost 300 people from 56 families in Selangor had to be evacuated to eight temporary PPS.
Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the eight PPS opened were Dewan Camelia Seksyen 10 Putra Height, SK Puchong Indah, Dewan Batu 3, Dewan Kampung Seri Aman, Dewan Puchong Jaya, Dewan MPS Kampung Melayu Sri Kundang, Dewan PJS 2C/6 and Dewan PJS 1/35.
In a statement, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis added that floodwaters are now slowly receding in several affected areas.
He said among the areas hit were Kampung Gombak; Kampung Melayu Kundang and Kampung Melayu Sungai Serai in Batu Arang, Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, Kampung Melayu, Sungai Buloh and Kampung Gombak Kuang, Rawang, involving over 50 homes.
He said areas in Klang district that were affected include Persiaran Hamzah Alang, Kapar town, Jalan Teratai, Taman Meru Daya, Jalan Sesenduk Meru, Jalan Cempaka and Jalan Paip hit by flash floods.
