JOHOR POLLS | A Covid-19 patient still under quarantine has been fined RM1,000 after going to the polling centre in Larkin to cast her vote in the Johor state election today.
The woman in her 30s was given a fine by a Johor Bahru health inspector after she tried to enter the polling centre at Kampung Melayu Majidee community hall this morning, as her red MySejahtera status was discovered.
The health inspector ordered the woman to immediately head home after issuing the summons, as reported by Free Malaysia Today.
The woman, who was unable to cast her vote, claimed she was not aware Covid-19 positive patients were not allowed to vote.
She said some friends told her she could cast her ballot despite being positive for Covid-19.
The woman went to the polling centre with her mother but returned home alone.
According to the Election Commission’s standard operating procedure (SOP) for the Johor polls, Covid-19 patients are not allowed to leave their quarantine location to go to voting centres due to the risk of infecting others.
The SOP also states that patients under investigation (PUI) and persons under surveillance (PUS) can request permission from the District Health Office to go to the polling centre to cast their votes.
This allowance is subject to the infection risk assessment of each individual.
