Covid-19 (May 4): 1,054 new cases, 3 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 1,054 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Active cases currently stood at 28,778, down 67.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (547)
Kuala Lumpur (113)
Pulau Pinang (60)
Negeri Sembilan (59)
Johor (50)
Kedah (40)
Perak (37)
Sarawak (32)
Sabah (23)
Pahang (22)
Putrajaya (21)
Melaka (20)
Terengganu (14)
Kelantan (12)
Perlis (2)
Labuan (2)

Another three deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday.

Over the past week, an average of 5.9 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 14.7, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,567 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 20 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 564 deaths last month and 2,235 deaths in March.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,071 deaths per 1 million population, and the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

There are 1,328 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 74 are in intensive care.

Another 363 Covid-19 patients were admitted yesterday. There has been a slight uptick in hospitalisation and intensive care bed use since May 2.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (87), followed by Johor (77) and Sabah (64).
