PKR elections: 8pct turnout so far, limelight on S’gor and Perak

The PKR elections which began on May 13 have seen only eight percent of party members go out to vote, with the limelight now on Selangor and Perak as the two states hold their elections today.
A total of 331,922 PKR members in Selangor are eligible to elect the party's new leadership physically today at 22 divisions across the state.
In Perak, 81,869 party members in the state will vote physically at 24 divisions.
Apart from having the highest amount of party members, Selangor also has 30,621 members who are eligible to vote online.
According to a party source, Selangor and Perak are now in the focus after a low turnout in physical elections for 10 states.
"After eight days, the turnout was only eight percent. This includes online voting where a total of 67,419 members of the party had voted through the Adil application from May 18 to yesterday," the source said.
Sources said the elections in Selangor and Perak would also see the final round of Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Rafizi Ramli's campaign to compete for the PKR deputy president post before the end of the elections tomorrow.
Saifuddin leads in Selangor, Rafizi controls Perak
According to another source, Saifuddin is currently leading in Selangor with at least 17 of the 22 divisions.
However, he did not rule out the possibility that Rafizi would still be able to compete with Saifuddin in the state.
Meanwhile, he said, Rafizi was able to make a wave in Perak.
Perak PKR was previously chaired by Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, a political rival of Rafizi’s.
According to the source, out of the 24 party divisions in Perak, nine were won by Rafizi uncontested, with six giving open support to the former PKR vice-president.
“Two divisions took a 50-50 stand, while only one division chief candidate who won uncontested in Perak expressed support for Saifuddin.
"Besides that, 24 candidates who contested for the post of division chief in 15 divisions sided with Rafizi, while seven candidates for the post of division chief supported Saifuddin and three others took an open stand or 50-50," he said.
Apart from Perak, Sarawak and Sabah will also hold physical elections tomorrow.
The results for all positions are expected to be announced by the Central Election Committee (CEC) within 24 hours after the end of the election.
