Christina Liew, who is defending her post as the Kota Kinabalu PKR chief, said she has received complaints that the list of candidates currently contesting for committee positions in her branch was missing from the voting tablet provided to members.
Physical voting for party polls in Kota Kinabalu took place between 8am and 4pm at the Golden Hotel in Sembulan yesterday.
“When I arrived at the hotel, many voters reported to me that they could not find my name as a candidate for the post of branch head.
“In fact, the whole line-up of candidates for the branch committee, women’s committee and youth committee had disappeared from the tablet,” Liew (above) was reported as saying by The Borneo Post.
She added that one of the supervisors had reset the tablet which made the list visible after a lawyer questioned why there was no list of candidates for the Kota Kinabalu committee, but that the list became “invisible” again later when it was her turn to vote.
Some voters reportedly said they only saw a line-up of three candidates for the party’s central leadership council (MPP) on the voting tablet and as such, they only voted for those three names.
Technical glitch
Several voters also claimed they were told by an election supervisor not to vote for Liew’s candidacy number but for her challenger’s candidacy number.
An election supervisor also allegedly told voters “Ini saja yang boleh undi” (You can only vote for this) when asked why the MPP list of candidates was the only one visible on the voting tablet.
It was also reported that a source close to Liew estimated about 700 voters had cast their physical votes today, but due to a technical glitch, the final results did not match the estimates.
Liew later said the chief supervisor informed her yesterday that 456 voters had voted, with a total of 1,368 votes for the MPP, women’s and youth wings at the central level, as well as for the Kota Kinabalu committee, women’s and youth wings at the branch level.
She explained that the chief supervisor had also approximated the figure of 456 as many of the voters did not vote for all six committees at the central and branch levels.
It was previously reported that the PKR election committee had received complaints alleging manipulation of the online voting process and that the committee was looking into the reports.
Rafizi Ramli, who is vying for the deputy president position, had also previously complained about weaknesses in the PKR election system.
