Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has announced that he will be taking a break from his royal duties.
He has appointed crown prince Tunku Ismail as regent to fill in his stead.
"The Johor crown prince has been appointed regent.
"I want to rest for a while starting today," Sultan Ibrahim was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
He announced this after officiating the second Johor state assembly meeting in Iskandar Puteri.
However, according to Bernama, Sultan Ibrahim did not say until when Tunku Ismail will be the regent.
This is not the first time Tunku Ismail, popularly known as TMJ, was made the Johor regent. He was last appointed to the role on Aug 10, 2019.
Tunku Ismail owns the Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club (JDT) and recently handed over the club’s day-to-day affairs to its top management to focus on his other responsibilities.
