An NGO activist received 16 stitches to the back of his neck after being assaulted by an unknown assailant.
The incident is believed to be linked to a report he lodged to the MACC regarding the Employment Recruitment Incentives Programme (PenjanaKerjaya) last week.
Persatuan Harapan India Malaysia chairperson Mani Maran Manickam claimed he was attacked outside a hotel in Kajang at 1.40pm yesterday.
“When I was checking out from the hotel and walking towards the car, that individual approached me to talk about the PenjanaKerjaya issue. At first, he spoke as though he supported my actions.
“But suddenly, he asked me why I made accusations towards two leaders from a political party whom I’ve implicated in the embezzlement at PenjanaKerjaya.
“As I was trying to leave, the individual suddenly attacked from behind at my neck and ran away. I believe this is attempted murder,” he told Malaysiakini.
Mani Maran believes he was attacked with a shaving razor.
“I made police reports against the two leaders because the individual asked specific questions regarding the allegations towards those two leaders.
“I ask the police to investigate the two leaders,” he said.
He added he had seen the individual before together with leaders of a political party.
When contacted, Kajang police district chief Mohd Zaid Hassan confirmed receiving the report.
Mani Maran had lodged a report to the MACC on July 22 along with what he claims to be additional evidence for the graft buster.
He claimed that it implicated a cabinet minister in the scandal.
The PenjanaKerjaya programme provides salary incentives of up to 60 percent of the monthly salary to employers, as well as high skills training programmes or professional certificates to employees of up to RM7,000.
However, the programme became mired with allegations of false claims and misappropriation that is now the subject of an MACC crackdown codenamed Ops Hire.
According to Bernama, as of July 19, 45 suspects were arrested under the operation to facilitate investigations.
