Zafrul appointed Selangor BN treasurer

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz is the new Selangor BN treasurer.

The appointment was announced by Selangor BN chief Noh Omar while closing the state chapter's convention in Setia Alam last night.

Zafrul will replace Jamal Md Yunos - who is now the state BN communications chief.

"With this reshuffle, God willing it will inject new life into BN, and Selangor will rise," Noh said.

Zafrul - decked out in a BN blue corporate shirt - later joined coalition leaders on stage and received his appointment letter while flanked by the likes of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The finance minister was previously believed to be party-less until his Umno membership was confirmed in May.

Zafrul wrote on his Facebook page later that he was humbled by the trust the Selangor BN leadership placed upon him.

"I believe BN is the best platform to bring the various ethnic groups, generations and groups together," he said.

Zafrul has reportedly been eyeing to contest in the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat in the next general election - and he made the eyebrow-raising move of having the Finance Ministry ”adopt” the constituency.

This came with the announcement that the East Coast Rail Link will have a stop at Puncak Alam - which is a major settlement in the constituency.

Zafrul, however, had denied harbouring political aspirations.

When met by reporters later, the minister was coy on whether or not he will contest in the forthcoming 15th general election.

"That is up to the BN leadership. Candidate or not, what is important is that we are united, God willing, in ensuring victory for BN," Zafrul said.

He also thanked the BN leadership for appointing him as Selangor BN treasurer.
