PKR is expanding its unorthodox strategy for leaders to be in charge of two state party chapters.
Last night, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim announced that vice-president Amirudin Shari - who already heads the party in Selangor - will also be the Pahang chief.
Meanwhile, fellow vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad will lead the party in Kelantan and Terengganu.
Previously, it was announced that PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli would head the party in the Federal Territories and Johor, while vice-president Aminuddin Harun will head Negeri Sembilan and Malacca.
Meanwhile, veteran activist Sangkar Rasam is the Sabah chief and Roland Engan is Sarawak chief.
The heads of PKR in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak have yet to be announced.
Normally, no PKR member will head more than one state chapter. Heads of the state chapters have the authority to choose the state’s party committee members.
Party members do not have the right to elect their state chapter head. The convention is for the party president to choose the state head in consultation with elected PKR division heads.
The state chapter head is a significant position because it will have some influence on the choice of election candidates.
It also indicates the party's nominee for the position of the state’s chief executive (menteri besar or chief minister).
Currently, the PKR state chapter heads for Selangor and Negeri Sembilan are both serving as the menteri besar.
