PBM says ready to discuss with BN on membership application

Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) today indicated its willingness to pursue further negotiations with BN over its application to be one of the coalition's component parties.

PBM secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad noted that BN would require more time to deliberate before reaching a consensus on the admission of new component parties.

"PBM appreciates BN's decision to discuss the matter further before a final decision is made.

“We are open to discussing with BN's supreme council if there are any issues arising or matters that needed to be cleared before a decision is made," said Hizwan (above) in a statement.

He added that PBM was planning to join BN so as to bring political stability and harmony to Malaysia.

"And we believe that positive changes will only happen if this country is run by a strong political coalition capable of fighting for Malaysia's aspiration as a multi-racial country," said the former PKR member.

Yesterday, BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said that PBM’s application, along with five other parties, was still under review.

PBM holds two parliamentary seats that were won on a PKR ticket in the last general election - Ampang and Tebrau - by its president-designate Zuraida Kamaruddin and Steven Choong, respectively.

Zuraida has held her Ampang seat for PKR since 2008 before joining Bersatu in 2020. She then abandoned the latter and joined PBM in May this year.

Choong, meanwhile, broke MCA's hold on Tebrau in 2018 and held the seat for PKR until February last year when he quit and became an Independent MP, before joining PBM later.

PBM’s other seat is Julau, held by Larry Sng who won the seat in 2018 as an independent.
