Puad questions silence over 'leaked' probe on SRC trial judge

Another Umno leader has urged the MACC, the Attorney-General's Chambers and the chief justice to break their silence over documents purported to be leaked investigation papers on the judge who convicted former premier Najib Abdul Razak for the misappropriation of SRC International funds.

In making the call, Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi questioned whether "keeping silent" has become the new trend for justice in the country.

"Evidence right in front of their eyes is being silenced. Maybe it’s better to keep silent.

"Just 'buat don't know' (pretend not to know), so the people can't do anything," Puad (above) said in a statement on Facebook.

"The people are asking MACC, is the investigation report leaked by Malaysia Today authentic?

"The people are also asking the attorney-general, has he read the report sent by the MACC in May? It has been three months. Why the silence?" he further asked.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan previously said an alleged MACC document on investigations against Court of Appeal judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, which stated there was an offence under Section 220 of the Penal Code, has been circulating online.

Ahmad urged the MACC to confirm or deny the veracity of the document. He also called on the AGC to announce any follow-up action on the investigation.

In 2020, then High Court judge Nazlan sentenced Najib to 12 years in prison and an RM210 million fine for corruption, abuse of power, and money laundering involving RM42 million of funds from SRC. Nazlan has since been promoted to the Court of Appeal.

Najib’s legal team has sought to discredit Nazlan by claiming that he has a conflict of interest arising from his previous employment as a general counsel at Maybank.

On May 21, the MACC said it had completed its investigation on the matter and submitted it to the AGC for further action.

Attorney-General Idrus Harun told Malaysiakini on May 23 that he was still studying the investigation paper.

Meanwhile, Puad said the people are also asking the chief justice - now presiding over Najib's final SRC appeal - whether the documents leaked cannot be used as a reason for consideration in the former prime minister's application to submit new evidence.
