Cops nab father of child actor following sexual abuse allegations

The police have detained the father of a child actor after she alleged that she was sexually abused by him.

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said that the 43-year-old man was detained in Kedah at 2.25pm on Tuesday.

“The man tested negative for drugs and did not have any prior criminal records,” Harian Metro quoted Wan Azlan saying, adding that the police have also seized the suspect’s mobile phone and sent it for forensic examinations.

In addition, the suspect has also been remanded until Sept 12 to facilitate investigations.

The 15-year-old actor first made the allegations that she was sexually and physically abused by her father, in her mother’s absence, when she was as young as six years old.

She claimed that apart from making her watch pornographic movies with him, the man also hit and molested her, and masturbated in front of her.

The actor has since lodged a police report over the abuse, while her father had also lodged another report to counter the allegations.

The child’s allegations have divided opinions, with one party urging her to pursue further action, while another saying that she should not have revealed such details to the public as it “shames” herself and her father.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Idris Ahmad is one of the latter.

He was quoted saying: “In Islam, it is better to not disgrace oneself (menutup aib sendiri). Such abuse should not be exposed to the public.

“She should have lodged a police report. Police have an obligation to investigate the case,” the PAS vice-president was quoted as saying by Berita Harian on Tuesday.

This caused former Muda vice-president Dr Thanussha Xavier to lambast Idris over his stand.
