Guan Eng likens Saravanan to Marie Antoinette

DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng has accused Human Resources Minister M Saravanan of being "cold and heartless" for the latter's remarks on an election during flood season.

Yesterday, Saravanan claimed that the opposition would benefit if there was public anger over polls being held close to flood season.

In a statement today, Lim likened Saravanan's "let the rakyat be angry" remark to the infamous "let them eat cake" remark often attributed to the last queen of France Marie Antoinette.

"Such a callous and dismissive attitude towards the possible loss of lives and property during the flood season has conclusively proven that the federal government is not fit to rule when it does not care about the people but only about retaining power at all costs," the Bagan MP said.

Lim pointed out that various experts already recommended the election be held only after the monsoon season is over, but he said some BN politicians were willing to risk the lives and properties of ordinary Malaysians.

"Worse, the government has to date failed to state their flood contingency plans during an election and whether any election held will have to be postponed in the event of floods.

"Even the US Embassy has issued a warning to its citizens about floods in Malaysia. Clearly, the US Embassy is more responsible than our government in looking after our citizens.

"Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob should learn from the deep concern about the flood situation by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who visited the National Flood Forecasting And Warning Centre today," said Lim.
