Lim playing usual DAP drama by twisting my remarks - Saravanan

Human Resources Minister M Saravanan said his remarks on holding an election during flood season were taken out of context and twisted by DAP national chairperson Lim Guan Eng.

Accusing Lim of “playing the usual DAP political drama”, Saravanan said the Bagan MP has run out of political ammunition against the government, especially BN.

“For reasons known only to him, he has twisted what I had said during a press conference yesterday that if the opposition felt conducting the 15th general election during the monsoon season would anger the voters, then they should support the idea as it would be reflected in the ballots.

“What I said was that if the people are angry at the government, then it would benefit the opposition, so why all the noise?

“He is playing the usual DAP political drama. They jump from one issue to another to keep themselves afloat politically,” Saravanan (above) said in a statement today.

Lim had previously been harping for an explanation on the alleged delay in the intake of foreign workers, which he received yesterday at the Human Resources Ministry, said the minister.

“And he harps on this (remarks on the election during flood season) today,” Saravanan said.

‘Cold and heartless’

Earlier today, Lim accused Saravanan of being “cold and heartless” over his remarks in a press conference yesterday.

Saravanan had claimed that the opposition would benefit if there was public anger over polls being held close to flood season.

Lim had likened Saravanan’s “let the rakyat be angry” comment to the infamous “let them eat cake” remark often attributed to the last queen of France Marie Antoinette.

In his statement today, Saravanan said he may not be the authority on flood mitigation measures, but he does know how much this was discussed by the cabinet.

The government and its machinery are prepared to provide a fast and efficient response to any unwanted incidents, he said.

“As a minister, I can vouch that the government of the day cares for the people and the strategies to mitigate floods and other related incidents arising from the monsoon season have been discussed at length by the cabinet.

“Let me assure Malaysians that all efforts will be made to mitigate mishaps arising from the monsoon season efficiently and effectively,” Saravanan said.
