Muhyiddin: PM 'irresponsible' for blaming Parliament dissolution on PN

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was “irresponsible” for blaming the dissolution of Parliament on the 12 ministers from PN.

He said Ismail Sabri made this accusation because Umno/BN had drawn the ire of the public for calling for an election during the monsoon season.

“They cannot blame anyone. They are responsible for it,” Muhyiddin said, as reported by Free Malaysia Today.

Yesterday, Ismail Sabri blamed the 12 PN ministers for the dissolution of Parliament after they penned a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to record their objections to the 15th general election (GE15) to be held this year.

He said the action had undermined the prime minister institution and the solidarity among members of the federal administration.

However, Muhyiddin said they had an agreement with Ismail Sabri when the latter was forming his government in August last year that a dissolution of Parliament should be discussed with PN first.

This agreement was based on PN forming “the biggest component” of Ismail Sabri’s government, he added.

He also said that the 12 ministers had the right to write to the Agong as there had been no in-depth discussion or cabinet decision on the dissolution of Parliament.

“So now when he (Ismail Sabri) is on the receiving end of attacks, he blames me and the ministers. Is this fair? It is not. You must blame yourself and bear the brunt of such attacks,” Muhyiddin said.

On Oct 10, Ismail Sabri announced that the Agong had given his consent to dissolve the 14th Parliament, paving the way for GE15 to be held within 60 days of the announcement.
