GE15: N Sembilan govt steadfast on 'no dissolution' stand 

UPDATED 5.52PM | Despite the Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan government’s decision not to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly simultaneously with Parliament, Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun said he will leave it to the coalition’s presidential council to decide.

Aminuddin (above), who is also the Negeri Sembilan Harapan chairperson, said the state government would abide by the presidential council’s decision.

“I already had an audience with Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir to inform him that we will hold the state election next year and Tuanku has no objections,” he said at a press conference after chairing the state executive council meeting today.

“Tuanku said that if the current state government still has the mandate from the people, there’s no harm to hold off the state election until next year.

“But we don’t know what’s the Pakatan Harapan council’s decision. Let’s wait for the decision, which is expected to be announced this evening.”

Aminuddin pointed out that the proposal of the party’s Penang chapter to reverse the coalition’s decision to put off the state election until the monsoon season has passed is not the wish of Negeri Sembilan.

“We have conveyed our wish and views in terms of pros and cons (of holding a state election now) to the council, but we will abide by the council’s decision.”

The Harapan presidential council meeting that is that began this afternoon is currently going on and will be touching on a proposal to allow Penang to reverse course and hold its state and federal elections concurrently.

Harapan to contest in Jempol or Kuala Pilah

Asked if Harapan in Negeri Sembilan is ready to face the looming election, Aminuddin said the party’s machinery has been activated after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament on Monday.

Aminuddin also gave his assurance that PKR would be fielding a candidate each for the Jempol and Kuala Pilah parliamentary seats.

“Before this, Bersatu fielded their reps. We will be fielding our own candidates this election. PKR will also be finalising seat negotiations soon.

“I foresee that the candidates will be announced early this time around, for seats where no problems arise. We can be sure to expect several old faces as well as new faces.”

During GE14, Bersatu’s Eddin Syazlee Shith contested in Kuala Pilah under Harapan’s flag and defeated Umno and PAS by garnering 18,045 votes.

However, Bersatu quit the alliance during the infamous Sheraton Move in 2020, which brought about the fall of the Harapan federal administration.
