Batu PKR vice-chief arrested for 'obstruction'

Batu PKR vice-chief Rozan Azen Mat Rasip was detained and brought to the Sentul district police headquarters tonight.

His lawyer GS Sandhu confirmed the incident with Malaysiakini.

A message purportedly from Rozan (above) claiming he was just arrested by the police was spread on Whatsapp earlier tonight.

“I was detained in a forceful and rough manner and handcuffed by two police officers at 6pm just now in front of Taman Koperasi Polis 2 Batu Muda during a campaign checking the polling areas,” the message read.

Rozan said he was checking the polling areas due to four alleged cases of residents in the Batu constituency having their voting areas shifted.

Sandhu said the police are investigating Rozan under Section 282 of the Penal Code for causing danger, obstruction or injury to any person in any public way or public line of navigation.

PKR mouthpiece Suara Keadilan had previously reported Rozan alleging that there have been several cases of Batu voters having their voting area changed without permission.

He claimed there have been four confirmed cases so far, with six more complaints under investigation.
