PDP not giving way to Ali Biju

Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) will not be giving way to incumbent Saratok MP Ali Biju, who is from Bersatu.

In a statement yesterday, PDP Youth chief David Yeo revealed that the party had invited Ali to join them and be their candidate for Saratok but the offer was rejected.

"It is a pity that Ali (above) has been negotiating with our party for a long time, and his position is getting more and more unstable.

"Only recently, Ali 'repented' and wanted to negotiate with our party on this matter.

"However, as we all know, a lot of early preparation needs to be done before the general election," said Yeo, according to Borneo Post.

In view of this, Yeo said PDP has no choice but to propose Giendam Jonathan as its candidate for Saratok.

Ali was widely seen as a rising star in Sarawak PKR after wresting the Krian state seat and the Saratok parliamentary seat from Sarawak BN in 2011 and 2018 respectively.

His political future looked less certain after joining Bersatu in early 2020.

During the Sarawak polls in 2021, his party did not endorse his candidacy to defend Krian.

Following this, Ali urged his supporters to back the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Krian and urged GPS to reciprocate by backing him for the Saratok race during the general election.
