The Education Ministry has never shut its doors on teachers who wish to voice their opinions and concerns pertaining to the ministry, said its minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.
Instead, he welcomed all stakeholders, teachers and parents to provide feedback on the syllabus as well as government policy.
“During engagement sessions with teachers, I have not once closed doors to teachers who wish to put forward their views.
“For instance, in the heavy school bags issue, we listened to the teachers’ and parents’ concerns and have come up with seven initiatives to solve the matter,” he told reporters after officiating the ‘Reading Progress Initiative’ in government schools, at a hotel in Shah Alam today.
This comes after Mohd Fadli Salleh, a primary school teacher in Gombak, said that he feared a dismissal or demotion for stating that the primary school mathematics syllabus was of too high a standard and inappropriate for pupils.
The mathematics teacher, better known as Cikgu Fadli to his over 600,000 followers on Facebook, said there were also too many pupils in the class and they had too many subjects to study.

He highlighted the issue of children carrying heavy school bags as well, saying that this was harmful to the pupils.
The issue had caught the attention of Ismail Sabri Yaakob where the caretaker prime minister said he hopes a win-win solution can be reached.
The Education Services Disciplinary Board, which met yesterday on the matter involving Cikgu Fadli will inform the latter of its decision today.
However, Radzi today explained that the fate of the primary school teacher is not in his hands, saying “it’s not my place to get into details of the disciplinary board’s decision.
“The verdict will be sent to the teacher via the head of department,” he added.
