Perak BN announces last 4 state candidates, Makkal Sakti gets Jelapang

BN candidates for the four remaining state seats in Perak - Aulong, Jelapang, Sungkai and Buntong – were finally announced today.

In a statement issued by Perak BN chairperson Saarani Mohamad’s office this evening, Aulong, Buntong and Sungkai will go to MIC while Jelapang will be contested by a candidate from Friends of BN – Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party.

Perak has named its state chief V Elango as the candidate for the Sungkai state seat.

Ipoh Barat MIC chief MS Jayagopi has been fielded to contest in Buntong while the party’s state secretary, G Shanmugiavalloo is named as the coalition’s Aulong candidate.

Meanwhile, Hamidah Muhamad from Makkal Sakti will be contesting under BN in Jelapang - known to be MIC’s traditional seat.

Hamidah is the current Perak Makkal Sakti women chief.

Earlier, Saarani only named candidates for 55 out of 59 seats, saying Aulong was previously contested by Gerakan, while Jelapang, Sungkai and Buntong were contested by MIC.

Of the total number of seats, 16 incumbent Umno assemblypersons will be defending their seats in the upcoming 15th general election.

No dispute in Perak

Yesterday, MIC leaders skipped the launch of the BN candidates in Kuala Lumpur.

It sparked speculations that the party would not field any candidates at all in the upcoming national polls over the decision to allocate some seats to the “friends of BN”.

Speaking to reporters at Bangunan Umno Perak this evening, MIC deputy president M Saravanan said there’s no dispute among BN component parties in Perak.

“So far, everyone is happy with the allocation of three parliamentary seats and three state seats,” said Saravanan.

Asked if MIC requested for the change-up, to contest in the Aulong state seat instead of Jelapang, the incumbent Tapah MP said it was “up to BN to decide”.

“They are given our proposal. By tomorrow, it will be resolved,” he said briefly.
