Flash floods hit Shah Alam following heavy rain

Flash floods have hit several areas in Shah Alam following heavy rain this evening, according to various social media postings.

It was learned that the areas affected in Shah Alam include Section 32 and Sri Muda, which saw deadly floods in December last year.

"We heard that flood has started rising in Sri Muda. Let's pray together that this rain will stop soon and it does not lead to a worse situation," tweeted Perikatan Nasional’s candidate for Shah Alam Afif Bahardin.

He attached a short clip showing water gushing into the compound of what looks like a terrace house.

Pakatan Harapan’s candidate Azli Yusof cancelled a ceramah slated for 9.00pm at Seksyen 16 in Shah Alam tonight.

His campaign team told reporters in a Whatsapp group that this is to focus on preparations in case of floods.

Another netizen uploaded pictures on Twitter showing several roads in Section 32, Shah Alam hit with flash floods with the water level about ankle-deep.

One of the photos also showed three people pushing a car while simultaneously trying to cover themselves from the rain with umbrellas.

"Flood has started at Section 32, Shah Alam," said the netizen with the Twitter handle @heyizwanizzat.

"Section 17, 18 and 24 are experiencing floods too," tweeted user @_AmirulBob.

Yellow warning for 4 states

Earlier today, the Meteorological Department issued a warning of heavy rain and strong wind for the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia until Nov 11.

It also raised its rain alert level to yellow (take caution) for four states - Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor.

The Meteorological Department’s analysis forecasted wind concentration to occur on the east coast of the Peninsular and west of Sarawak.

"This could potentially cause continuous rain which can lead to heavy rain and strong winds on the east coast until Nov 11.

"At the same time, states along the west coast of the Peninsular and Sarawak are also expected to experience more heavy rain and thunderstorms in the evening until night time," it said in a statement released at 3.30pm.
