E-hailing drivers in Lembah Pantai, who are supporting Pakatan Harapan's candidate Fahmi Fadzil, are offering free rides to those who are affected by the Kelana Jaya line LRT breakdown.
Announcing this on his Facebook post today, Fahmi said the drivers have offered to ferry public transport users from the Universiti station near Kerinchi to as far as Pasar Seni station in downtown Kuala Lumpur.
The service will be from today until Nov 15, during the peak hours of 7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm, he said.
"I hope everyone reaches their destination quickly and safely," he said.
He also shared a photograph of drivers wearing T-shirts with the incumbent MP's face on them.
They also hold a Harapan flag and a placard offering the free service.
This comes after the Selangor government offered 20 Smart Selangor feeder buses to RapidKL, to be used as rail replacement buses.
Service for 16 stations on the Kelana Jaya line, the most heavily used metro rail service in Malaysia, has been suspended due to a fault in the automatic train control system.
The system controls communication between the driverless trains and the control room, and its breakdown poses a safety hazard.
Service from the Kelana Jaya to the Pasar Seni stations will be suspended until Nov 15.
Prasarana has provided multiple shuttle buses as alternatives, however, the lack of dedicated bus lanes means buses are often caught in traffic congestion during peak hours.
The Kelana Jaya line serves 200,000 people a day, Prasarana said.
Meanwhile, NGO Insan has launched a platform allowing affected LRT users to share information for carpooling, during this period.
Insan is a group advocating against inequality and for better policies for the urban poor and disabled launched.
The move comes after social media users started using the hashtag #carpoolLRT to arrange rides among themselves amid the LRT breakdown.
