Ronald contesting under PN: We acted fairly, Muhyiddin says

GE15 | Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said his coalition acted fairly and reasonably by allowing incumbent Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee to defend his seat on the coalition’s ticket.
“We have to save him (Ronald) from all the treatment he is facing in Sabah by offering him PN’s ticket and at least giving him a chance for him to stand.
“I think I acted fairly and reasonably to protect not only Ronald’s but also PN’s position," he added.
Ronald (above) is a member of Bersatu which is part of the PN coalition as well as the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
For this election, GRS is in a political pact with BN. The two coalitions are sharing the rights to field 25 parliamentary candidates in Sabah.
BN’s Benedict Asmat is being fielded as a candidate in Beluran.

Ronald was among the five Sabah Bersatu incumbents which were not fielded as candidates by GRS. This came as a surprise because Ronald is the vice president of Bersatu.
On nomination day, Ronald filed his nomination papers as a PN candidate, which meant that his candidacy was endorsed by the PN coalition’s leadership.
Sabah BN appeared to have taken the decision in their stride with their leader Bung Moktar Radin stating on Nov 12 that Ronald’s candidacy did not violate the GRS-BN pact.
Confident Beluran residents appreciate
Meanwhile, Bernama reports that Ronald has expressed confidence he will retain the Beluran seat and serve a sixth term.

“In the past two years, through the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry, of which I was the minister, various projects have been undertaken which have benefited Beluran residents.
“My service record as an elected representative has been my main priority and purpose that I have not neglected.
“I am confident Beluran residents know and appreciate what I’ve done all this while,” he said.
Ronald was also a two-term deputy speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.
