BN MPs summoned to palace tomorrow, King reiterates call for patience

After meeting Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders, the palace will next summon BN’s 30 parliamentarians for a meeting at 10.30am tomorrow.

The Agong will be seeing each BN representative individually.

This is for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to determine who is most likely to have the confidence of the majority of MPs, in accordance with Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

In the meantime, Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said His Majesty reiterated his call for calm.

“His Majesty urges and advises the people to be patient and calm until the formation of a new government and appointment of the upcoming 10th prime minister is complete.

“His Majesty also urges the people to come together and pray for the process to go smoothly for the sake of our beloved nation,” he said in a statement.

In a related development, BN is holding a supreme council meeting at Umno’s headquarters at 8.30pm tonight.

A source told Malaysiakini the meeting will be followed by a meeting with all 30 BN parliamentarians.

Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim and PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin had both had audiences with the Agong earlier today at 4.30pm.

In separate press conferences, Anwar told reporters the king has yet to make a decision on the next prime minister but expressed confidence he would eventually secure a simple majority in Parliament.

Muhyiddin, meanwhile, claimed to have already exceeded the simple majority threshold and rejected the king’s proposal to form a unity government with Harapan.
