Fact-check: BN's statement on signed SDs supporting Anwar is false

A press statement purported to reveal that BN MPs have signed statutory declarations (SDs) in support of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is false.

The document circulating on social media, purportedly issued by BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir, also lists several names of leaders to be made ministers.

This list proposes Mohamad Hasan as the Home minister, Johari Ghani as the finance minister, Azalina Othman as law minister, Mohamed Khaled Nordin as the education minister and Mohamad Alimin as the works minister.

The statement also claimed that BN was grateful to Anwar for carrying out an agreement to name a deputy prime minister from the coalition, following a meeting between BN and Pakatan Harapan in Seri Pacific Hotel on Nov 21.

According to the purported statement, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan would be BN's candidate for the post.

However, BN has since denied the statement in a Facebook post.

Anwar is expected to name two deputy prime ministers - one from BN and another from East Malaysia.

The newly minted prime minister has a deal with BN in which appointments for cabinet positions, government agencies, Dewan Negara members and government-linked companies have to be mutually agreed upon by the prime minister and deputy prime minister, as part of their 10-point agreement.

While a BN source told Malaysiakini yesterday that Umno's top brass has not nominated a candidate for the deputy prime minister position, several leaders have backed Mohamad as the person for the job.

This includes Umno youth exco Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin and Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chief Aminuddin Harun.
