The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has further lowered the ticket prices for the 2022 Mitsubishi Electric AFF Cup matches involving the national team.

The latest decision was announced on its social media, about two hours after Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh asked for it to be reduced once more.

FAM even reduced ticket prices for all types of tickets, despite Yeoh’s sole request for a price reduction for open-seat tickets.

Here are the new prices announced by FAM:

  • Grandstand RM60 (RM10 reduction)

  • Premium RM50 (RM10 reduction)

  • Open RM30 (RM15 reduction)

  • Children RM5 (RM5 reduction)

Today's drop in fares is the second after the initial price revealed yesterday drew consternation from Harimau Malaya supporters.

Earlier, Yeoh had requested that the price of open-tier tickets be lowered further to increase attendance and promote family sports culture.

Malaysia will play Laos on Dec 24 and Singapore on Jan 3 next year at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

‘Consider the B40 group’

FAM president Hamidin Mohd Amin has revealed that ticket prices had been lowered following reactions from supporters.

He said the increase in ticket prices for the 2022 games, in comparison to its 2018 iteration, had to be done because of a rise in related costs.

This included the cost of managing and organising matches.

He also revealed that he has ordered the FAM Ticket and Stadium Committee to find the best solution to ensure a win-win situation between FAM and the football supporters.

"After various views, research and further information was presented, the FAM Ticket and Stadium Committee agreed with my proposal for ticket prices to be reduced further in order to ensure that it can be accepted by all supporters," he said.

He also said that the decision takes into account the reality that the majority of football supporters are from the underprivileged B40 group.
