DPM reappoints ex-Machang MP as Felcra chairperson

Former Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub will be reappointed as the chairperson of Felcra, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced.

According to Zahid, the decision was made after taking into account the wishes of the representatives of Koperasi Peserta-Peserta Felcra Malaysia Berhad (KPFMB).

It is worth noting that Jazlan’s (above) appointment comes just two days after the cabinet decided to scrap all political appointments in government-linked firms and bodies.

Despite the cabinet’s decision, consideration for Jazlan’s reappointment was given due at the request of the cooperative members, Berita Harian quoted Zahid saying at the cooperative’s general meeting last night.

“I cannot but agree to give my trust again to Jazlan. I hereby instruct the secretary-general of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (Ramlan Harun) to issue a reappointment letter as soon as possible, subject to the approval of the minister.

“The minister has agreed to the instructions of the deputy prime minister. It is not impossible for the chief secretary to immediately complete the reappointment.”

Jazlan was among the political appointees to GLCs (government-linked company), who had completed his service as Felcra chairperson following the formation of a new government after the 15th general election (GE15). He was appointed to the post on Oct 3 last year.

In a recent letter signed by Chief Secretary Mohd Zuki Ali, it was stipulated that all the services of chairpersons and board members under the political appointment quota will be terminated immediately.

Those whose contracts are terminated included political appointments to federal statutory bodies, government-linked companies (GLCs), Finance Ministry (Incorporated) companies, government-linked investment companies (GLICs), and key institutions.
