Water supply disruption in 472 Selangor areas

Due to odour pollution at the Jenderam Hilir raw water pump station, a total of 472 areas in five Air Selangor districts will face unscheduled water supply disruption.

In a statement, Air Selangor said the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant and Bukit Tampoi Water Treatment Plant were temporarily shut down at 7am today for cleaning.

The affected areas are Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (196 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas), and Kuala Langat (27 areas).

“Air Selangor will provide updates progressively from time to time through all mediums, especially the mass media. 

“Consumers can also refer to all our official communication channels such as the Air Selangor application, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, or call the Air Selangor Contact Centre at 15300. 

“Inquiries and complaints can also be submitted at the Help Centre via www.airselangor.com and the Air Selangor application,” it said in a statement. 

Meanwhile, Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) said that the cause of the pollution was due to perfume oil spillage due to an accident involving a lorry near Bandar Serenia, Negeri Sembilan. 

“The distance between the location of the accident and the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant is about 6.4km,” it said. 

Luas said it was closely monitoring efforts to clean up the oil spill. 

The Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants were temporarily shut down three weeks ago after another incident of odour pollution was detected at the Jenderam Hilir water intake point.
