The Perlis government had not discussed the possibility of banning 4D number betting outlets in the state, said Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

Shukri (above) mentioned that there were very few such outlets in Perlis but said the matter would be looked into eventually.

"God willing, we will look into the legislation first, including the licence period of gambling outlets before any action is taken.

"Anyway in Perlis, we don't even have many gambling outlets, because I understand that there are only about three such outlets in the Kangar and Kuala Perlis area," he told New Straits Times yesterday.

Yesterday saw Kedah becoming the third PAS-controlled state after Terengganu and Kelantan to ban 4D outlets from operating in the state.

The 15-seat Perlis legislative assembly is currently dominated by nine PAS lawmakers. Along with their Bersatu allies, the Perikatan Nasional coalition controls 14 seats.

Meanwhile, Shukri assured that under his administration, the state will continue to not have any liquor stores.

"If we look, so far no liquor shops are operating in this state except traditional medicine shops which are found to be selling alcohol for medicine (purposes) and that is fine.

"24-hour convenience stores in this state are also not allowed to sell alcoholic beverages.

"In addition, we do monitor the operation of food shops that sell alcohol publicly because we do not want those who drink alcohol (beverages) to disturb the peace and safety of others, especially when they are driving," he said.
