Sivakumar: PM unwell, unable to attend Thaipusam celebration

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had to skip the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves today as he was unwell, according to Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar.

The minister told reporters that Anwar had to seek a doctor’s attention at a hospital earlier today due to a health issue.

“I was informed that the prime minister was unable to come as he is feeling unwell and went to the hospital for a check-up,” he said when met at Batu Caves, as reported by The Star.

Sivakumar was explaining to reporters why Anwar could not attend the celebration, where the prime minister was initially scheduled to make an appearance.

However, the minister did not elaborate further on the nature of Anwar’s health issue but said that the prime minister wants to meet temple committee representatives involved with Thaipusam celebrations nationwide.

“The meeting will be held within the next week or two,” he reportedly said.

An aide to Anwar, when contacted, confirmed that the prime minister is not well.

He, however, declined to comment further, except assuring that it was “nothing serious”.
