Amanah leader: Apology to Anwar a blow to 'slanderous' PN campaign

The apology by Perak PAS head Razman Zakaria to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday had dented the credibility of PAS and Perikatan Nasional, an Amanah leader said today.

Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Faiz Fazil, who is also a lawyer, said Razman's apology for accusing Anwar of having an "LGBT agenda" during the last general election was only one of the "slanderous" materials used by PAS and PN.

"This 'green wave' stems from slanderous campaign methods, including accusations that Pakatan Harapan supports a communist agenda or that Anwar has ties to Israel.

"With this apology, it is no longer a personal matter, but a matter that concerns the parties because the LGBT allegation was campaign material used by PAS and PN during the last election.

"Malay voters should take heed of this apology because a lot of PAS and PN's campaign materials were based on slander involving race and religion," said Faiz (above).

Yesterday, Razman issued a written apology to Anwar before the Taiping High Court for claiming that the latter would promote an "LGBT agenda", allow same-sex marriage, and support a communist agenda upon becoming prime minister.

This was part of a settlement agreement between the two. Anwar had agreed to withdraw his defamation suit against Razman to seek RM5 million in view of the apology.

Razman had uttered the defamatory remark during a speech at the Tebuk Pancur night market in Semanggol, Perak, on Nov 6 last year.
