Air Selangor: Water supply restored in stages, 4 treatment plants resume work

The Sungai Selangor Phase 1,2, 3 and Rantau Panjang water treatment plants have resumed operations since 6.30am this morning after a forced shutdown due to odour pollution at the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant.

According to a statement by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), water supply in 1,337 affected areas has been restored in stages since earlier this morning.

"Restoration varies from one area to another, depending on the location and distance of the consumer's premises," said Air Selangor in a statement on Facebook.

"Air Selangor continuously mobilised alternative assistance through water tankers to the affected areas, with priority given to critical premises such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres and funerals during this unscheduled water supply disruption," it said.

The affected areas comprise eight Air Selangor regions, namely Petaling (370 areas), Kuala Lumpur (186 areas), Gombak (279 areas), Hulu Selangor (28 areas), Klang and Shah Alam (189 areas), Kuala Langat (3 areas) and Kuala Selangor (280 areas).

Separately, Selangor Tourism, Environment, Green Technology, and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairperson Hee Loy Sian said the Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) had identified the source of pollution to be a diesel spill from heavy machinery found on the Sungai Selangor river bank, around 3km from the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant.

"Further investigations are being carried out to ensure the problem is fully resolved on the ground.

"Luas has also conducted sampling works for purposes of further legal action," said Hee.
