Higher Education Minister Khaled Nordin managed to defend his Umno vice-president's post, with Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Federal Territories Umno chief Johari Abdul Ghani securing the two other vice-president seats.

Official results this afternoon showed that Wan Rosdy bagged the most votes with 124 divisions, followed by Khaled with 114, and Johari with 107.

Umno has a total of 191 divisions but voting in two divisions - Johor Baru and Lahad Datu - got suspended due to irregularities.

Meanwhile, de facto Law Minister Azalina Othman Said, who is also Pengerang MP, failed to make the list as the only woman candidate to contest the post this year.

Azalina ranked fourth out of seven candidates, the remaining three being incumbent Mahdzir Khalid, Umno supreme council member Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Simpang Renggam MP Hasni Mohamad.

Umno party election director Shahrir Samad told reporters at a press conference today that Azalina lagged far behind Johari, making it impossible for her to catch up.

Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob decided not to defend his Umno vice-presidency but remained as Bera Umno division chief.
