Muda will add no value to Harapan - PKR Youth leader

Muda should stop pressing for a reply to its application to join Pakatan Harapan as the party's presence would not provide any added value to the coalition, said PKR Youth.

Selangor PKR Youth deputy information chief Mohd Fauzi Fadzil pointed out that as the "host" (tuan rumah), Harapan has the final say on when it can accept the youth-based party.

"Firstly, the Muda leadership should realise that they are 'outsiders' asking to come in into Harapan's house, and being the 'host', Harapan has the right to decide when to let people in.

"Muda's insistence for an answer is rude and disrespects Harapan as a leader of the coalition," he said in a statement today.

The Harapan presidential council, which is supposed to decide on Muda's application, has other pressing matters to attend to such as government policies, Fauzi added.

He was responding to Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman who recently expressed hopes that issues surrounding its application to join Harapan would be sorted before the party can think about seat allocations for the forthcoming state polls.

Muda has yet to get an answer on the matter despite having sent four letters to Harapan, and attending two meetings with Harapan chairperson cum Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Syed Saddiq had said.

'Stop being a crybaby'

Fauzi also lambasted Muda's “immaturity” in demanding 15 parliamentary seats it wished to contest before a discussion was held with the Harapan presidential council prior to the 15th general election.

"Syed Saddiq also showed that he cannot be trusted after fielding a candidate to contest in the Larkin state seat in last year's Johor election. This resulted in a six-way contest and ultimately cost Harapan a chance to win.

"Muda's admission into Harapan is irrelevant and will not add any value to the coalition. Muda only managed to retain the Muar parliamentary seat due to Harapan's support," he said.

"So what's the use of accepting Muda into Harapan when they cannot add any value, and in fact, complicate things further when the state elections happen?" Fauzi added.

Instead of consistently complaining about being left out of Harapan, Muda should concentrate on building its support base and organisation, he noted.

"Know your place and fix your weaknesses before pushing others.

"The Muda leadership should stop complaining and asking for sympathy - you are not a child that has to be pampered all the time."

In response, Selangor Muda deputy information chief Ernest Tan Yong reminded that Muda has been committed to working with Harapan even before the 15th general election, and will continue to back the unity government even though it is not being offered any government positions.

He said it was saddening to suggest Muda is of no value proposition and only riding on Harapan’s popularity, but it will continue its political struggle and speak up on issues affecting the people, especially students and youths.

“Muda is committed to the struggle. The ball is now in the court of Harapan leaders.

“Make a decision on Harapan’s stance and relationship with Muda and explain it to the people, and don’t just give us the cold shoulder,” Tan said in a statement.
