PN needs 20pct non-Malay votes to take S'gor, N Sembilan: Razali

Perikatan Nasional (PN) needs to capture over just 20 percent of the non-Malay voters to win the upcoming Selangor and Negeri Sembilan elections.

This was according to Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, who added that PN partner Gerakan was already implementing strategies to achieve this goal.

"We only need 20 per cent from the total population of non-Malay voters to form a strong majority in both Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.

"We also expect that we will do well in Penang," Razali told Malay Mail.

Razali attributed DAP and Umno's new alliance as detrimental to Pakatan Harapan's support and expected PN to benefit.

During the parliamentary election last year, PN made inroads in Selangor by winning six out of 22 parliamentary seats in the state, up from nil prior to the election.

However, PN was unable to win a single seat in Negeri Sembilan, coming in third in seven out of eight parliamentary seats contested.

Razali, who hails from Terengganu but sat out of the general election last year, said PN would focus on Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan as the coalition was confident of retaining Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

He said PN was hoping for a minimum turnout of 70 per cent, which he claimed would help PN win.

"Because we can see that in the previous state elections prior to the general election, the voters went for either Harapan or BN as the voter turnout was considerably low," said Razali.

Checks by Malaysiakini suggested that the number of people who voted for Harapan in Johor increased by 100 per cent during the November 2022 election, compared to the Johor legislative assembly elections just eight months prior.

As for PN, its votes increased by 50 per cent, while BN's votes remained relatively unchanged.
