The BN supreme council has unanimously agreed it will back the coalition government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir said his coalition is also committed to continuously developing policies for the people.

In BN’s supreme council meeting yesterday which involved all component parties, Zambry (above) said they deliberated the model of cooperation between BN and other parties in the coalition government to face the state elections.

“The supreme council also agreed to participate in the ‘unity government’ national convention on May 14 at WTC, Kuala Lumpur.

“BN calls for leaders from all walks of life to continue to maintain unity and harmony so that political stability can be guaranteed,” he said in a statement last night.

This comes amid talks of an alleged coup, manoeuvred by Perikatan Nasional (PN), to oust the current Anwar-led administration.

Earlier, The Vibes claimed there are talks of an attempt hatched by PN to convince several BN MPs to quit to pave the way for by-elections.

According to the report, should the BN MPs win, they will be able to form a new government - with the help of MPs from Sabah and Sarawak - and install PN leader Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister, again.

However, the rumours were rubbished by Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong also denied he would back such a plot.
