‘Secret’: S’gor govt rejects activist’s request for MB, exco perks details

A request to reveal the remuneration, perks and benefits received by Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and state exco, Izham Hashim as directors of the company involved in an RM700 million Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project were rejected on grounds of protecting personal data.

Green Party activist Abdul Razak Ismail said the Selangor government’s reply to his request for these details under the state’s Freedom of Information (FOI) Enactment was simply that it was a “secret”.

“(They) said they became the directors of the joint venture company to protect ‘the interests of Selangor’.

“But when we asked under FOI for the salary, allowances and other perks and benefits they receive every month, supposedly for ‘protecting the state’s interests’, the simple answer (is that it is) a secret,” Abdul Razak said in a Facebook post today.

In the government’s reply which the activist shared, they stated that the information he requested is exempted under Part III, Section 13 of the enactment.

“The following items are considered exempted information (as) each department may refuse to show whether it has the information or refuse to provide the information, where it can do so if it would involve the unreasonable disclosure of a third party’s personal information,” the reply read, as posted by Abdul Razak.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) had previously lodged a report against the SMG project for the cleaning and development of the Klang River, which was awarded to Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB).

In their report, PN questioned the positions of Amirudin and Izham as directors of LLSB.

Izham is the infrastructure and public amenities, agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry state executive councillor.

It was also previously reported that Abdul Razak had made the FOI request in March.
