DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang proposed for the unity government to cooperate with PAS ahead of the upcoming state elections.

However, Lim stressed that the government should only do so on two conditions – one is that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang cease hostilities towards Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Hadi must show honesty.

Lim had made the call in support of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree that Malaysia needs political stability and the success of the unity government convention yesterday.

In view of this, Lim said if Hadi admitted that he had made unsubstantiated allegations against the DAP and promise not to repeat it, then PAS should be invited to join the unity government.

Among others, Lim said Hadi had made several wild allegations including one that non-Muslims were "plunderers" who indulged in bribery and deceit at the expense of the Malays.

Lim also cited Hadi's allegation that the DAP recruited "ignorant" Malays to serve as the party's "puppets".

"If Hadi can become an honest, responsible and respected Islamic leader in Malaysia and admit that he was wrong to make such wild and preposterous allegations... then, I do not see why PAS cannot be invited to join the unity government.

"The Yang di Pertuan Agong is right - Malaysia needs political stability to become a progressive, prosperous and respected world-class nation.

"But will Hadi heed calls to prioritise national interests instead of acting for his own personal interests?" asked Lim.

Lim's statement came amidst another olive branch extended to PAS by Anwar, through PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

During a meeting with Nik Abduh last Friday, Anwar informed the former of his wish to rekindle his relationship with PAS leaders, including Hadi.
