Malay Proclamation parties back PN in six state polls: Bersatu

Political parties that signed up for the Malay Proclamation agreed to back Perikatan Nasional in the upcoming six-state elections.

This is according to Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, who represented the party at the movement's roundtable meeting chaired by former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Kuala Lumpur today.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, Razali said non-PN parties have agreed to stay out of the state elections to ensure there will be a straight fight between PN and Pakatan Harapan or its allies.

"We have two plans, for the short term and long term.

"The long-term plan is to unite and gather our strength to defeat the current PH-BN government.

"And the short-term plan is about the upcoming state elections, where we agreed that PN is the only vehicle to bring forward the Malay agenda, as we have 74 parliamentary seats, all Malay and Bumiputera seats.

"So, we have agreed to support this vehicle (PN) so that PN can win in all six states," he said.

Razali said all the other parties have agreed to sit out of the state elections and instead lend their support to PN, including campaigning for its candidates.

Earlier today, Mahathir, who formed the movement which seeks to unite Malays to safeguard their interests in the country, announced that all parties signatories to the proclamation have agreed to work together, including during elections.

Speaking at a press conference after the roundtable meeting, the former PM said thus they will not clash in polls.

Among those at the meeting were PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and Bersatu information chief Razali Idris.

Others present were Muafakat Nasional chairperson Annuar Musa, Pejuang chairperson Mukhriz Mahathir, Putra president Ibrahim Ali, Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, former Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar and former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin.
