Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani will step down as inspector-general of police in early July, ahead of the expiry of his contract on Oct 3.

He told Berita Harian that he has to step down earlier because he needed to accept another job offer.

"Yes. I will withdraw from the police force in the first week of July. I decided to do so because of an offer which I must accept now," he said.

According to Berita Harian, citing sources, Acryl Sani (above) will be joining a government-owned bank.

The daily also reported that speculation of Acryl Sani's decision to shorten his tenure was previously fuelled by the fact that his aide de camp had been transferred to normal duties.

Putrajaya has not indicated who will take over from Acryl Sani.

Acryl Sani will turn 62 on Oct 3. His deputy, Razarudin Husain is 60.
