Sungai Pelek assemblyperson Ronnie Liu has decided to quit DAP after 41 years with the party because he does not want to be involved in “partisan politics” anymore.

However, he said he will remain an ally of Pakatan Harapan and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“My heart is still with Harapan and Malaysia Madani. I will support Anwar, always.

“I remain a Harapan supporter. But no more partisan politics for me,” Liu (above) told Malaysiakini today.

Liu yesterday posted on Facebook the content of a letter addressed to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke announcing his intention to leave the party.

In the letter, he said many things have happened over his 41 years of being with the party.

“Some were beyond my expectations. With that, I request to terminate my membership with DAP with effect from June 24, 2023,” the letter read.

Liu confirmed with Malaysiakini that the letter will be sent to Loke today.

Last October, it was reported that Liu was expected to quit DAP sometime soon.

However, at the time, he merely said to “wait” for his statement when asked about it.

Liu was elected as one of the DAP central executive committee (CEC) members, garnering 1,070 votes in the party election in early 2022, and was expected to serve in the position till 2025.

However, the party maverick had constantly clashed with some of his fellow members and was even given a number of show-cause letters by the party in 2019.
