PAS' state polls hopefuls must steer clear of 'grave sins' - spiritual leader

PAS candidates contesting in the upcoming six state elections must not be involved in “grave sins” and must have moral values.

According to the party’s spiritual leader Hashim Jasin, these are the criteria the PAS Syura Council will look for when it meets next week to vet candidates to contest in the polls.

“The main agenda of the Syura Council next week is vetting the candidates who will be contesting in the elections.

“Those who will be chosen (to contest) must steer clear of ‘grave sins’, consistently not guilty of committing ‘minor sins’, and must have moral values,” Utusan Malaysia quoted Hashim (above) saying today.

Hashim said that the party will present the names of three candidates for each state constituency that will be contested, for vetting purposes.

The Syura Council will then scrutinise the list before picking the most suitable candidate.

Asked whether former Keterah MP cum Umno veteran Annuar Musa will be given a chance to run under the PAS ticket, Hashim said that it is up to the Syura Council to decide.

He further expressed confidence that PAS’ “green wave” and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will sweep through the six states where the polls will be held, including Selangor.

The elections in six states involve 36 state constituencies in Kedah, Kelantan (45), and Terengganu (32), all of which are under PN, while Penang (40), Selangor (56), and Negeri Sembilan (36) are under Pakatan Harapan.
