Sinkhole damages Karak Highway, traffic diverted

Motorists on the Karak Highway are being diverted through Bentong after a sinkhole damaged both sides of the road.

The incident occurred at KM-66.2 of the highway, near the Bentong Tol Plaza.

“The cause of the incident is still being investigated and (highway) users are urged to use alternative routes.

“As of time of writing, Anih Bhd’s LPT Ronda technical teams and the police are helping to direct traffic towards detours that have been prepared,” the highway concessionaire Anih Bhd said in a statement.

It said motorists heading from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur should exit the highway at the Bentong Timur interchange and reenter via the Bentong Barat interchange.

Motorists heading from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan should detour through the Central Spine Road interchange.

Those from the East Coast using the Central Spine Road to travel to Kuala Lumpur may continue to do so.

However, motorists going in the other direction from Kuala Lumpur to Gua Musang should exit at the Bentong Barat interchange and reenter the highway at the Bentong Central Spine Road interchange.

The concessionaire also urged motorists to refer to its social media handles or those of the Malaysian Highway Board for the latest information or call their hotlines at 1800-88-7752 (for the Highway Board) or 1-700-818-700 (for the East Coast Highway hotline)
