The Terengganu polls will see Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) senator Razali Idris going up against state BN chief Ahmad Said in the Kijal seat.
Ahmad is the incumbent for Kijal, where he has served for 33 years since 1990, only interrupted by a one-term break.
Razali (above) last contested in a state election in 2008, where he was fielded in Ru Rendang under the BN ticket.
Kijal is under the Kemaman parliamentary seat, which was won by PAS’ Che Alias Hamid in the 15th general election last year, with a majority of 27,179 votes.

Kijal is almost exclusively made up of Malay voters (98 percent) while the other two percent are Chinese.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Amzad Hashim, who was disqualified last month from the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat he won in the 15th general election, will be tasked with taking the seat back in an upcoming by-election.
This was announced at a PN candidate announcement event in Marang, Terengganu tonight.
On June 27, the Kuala Terengganu election court nullified Ahmad Amzad’s victory in Kuala Terengganu in GE15.

The court found that the petitioner, BN’s Mohd Zubir Embong succeeded in proving that corruption had taken place with the aim of influencing voters in the election for the seat.
This triggered the need for the by-election, which will be held simultaneously with the six state polls on Aug 12.
It was also announced that PN’s Terengganu candidates will be contesting under the PAS flag.
