PSM candidate ‘unboxes’ her assets at RM287,916.28

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate Sivaranjani Manickam has ‘unboxed’ her net assets worth RM287,916.28.

Fishing out printouts of her assets from a cardboard box, the 42-year-old candidate for the Meru state seat explained that she reached the figure by deducting RM81,000 in debt from her total assets of RM368,916.28.

She owns a flat in Puchong worth RM150,000, a Perodua Axia worth RM24,500, and has RM7,282.10 in her bank account.

Sivaranjani, who is single, said she has a house loan of RM70,000 and a car loan of RM11,000, totalling RM81,000 to be paid.

Speaking at PSM’s service centre in Kapar, Klang today, Sivaranjani mentioned that she also has a Proton X50 but clarified that it was a family car paid for by her siblings.

She also revealed that her monthly salary is RM8,320 as a community outreach manager and her total EPF savings stood at RM107,134.15.

The PSM central committee member said asset declaration had been a party tradition since the 1999 general election.

“This is a transparency process so that people know, before the election, how much the candidate had in assets.

“That’s why PSM practises this tradition, as a best political practice,” she said.

On the party’s election campaign funding source, Sivaranjani said the financial contributions come from her supporters.

Sivaranjani will face a three-cornered fight against Pakatan Harapan’s Mariam Abdul Rashid and Perikatan Nasional’s Hasnizam Adham.

Meru was a Barisan Nasional stronghold until PAS wrested it in 2008, only for the seat to be captured by Harapan ten years later.
