With the tagline 'All Business Daily', stand alone business paper The Malaysian Reserve was launched today.

Editor of the new daily, Halim Wahab, 45, told malaysiakini that the paper was set up because they felt there was a market for it.

"We feel there is a market for a stand alone business paper to complement the business sections in other national newspapers.

"We will be covering everything and anything business-related in Malaysia as well as on global level," he said.

Currently, most English dailies in the country - The Star, The Sun and New Straits Times - carry business sections in their dailies.

However, The Malaysian Reserve isn't the only standalone business daily as Nexnews which publishes The Sun , also launched The Financial Financial Daily last week.

Halim said the newspaper was targeted at "business professionals, high network individuals and key decision makers".

20,000 copies of the paper will be circulated free for the first week. After that, the price of the The Malaysian Reserve will be RM1.50

On his staff strength, Halim said the editorial department was working with a "minimum amount of people".

"Eventually we'll have about 40 staff," he added.

The Malaysian Reserve is published daily except on weekends and is owned by Syed Hussain Publications.

Syed Hussain Publications specialises in trade magazines, with the Asian Defence Journal as its flagship publication since 1970.
