Syed Saddiq claims allocation withdrawn after he joined opposition bloc

PARLIAMENT | Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar) claimed that his constituency allocation has been withdrawn since he quit the government bloc in Parliament.

“On this matter, I got confirmation from the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) that as soon as I joined this (opposition) bloc, the allocation was withdrawn and emptied out.

“It is the same for all opposition MPs, who, I am confident, have not received allocation until today,” Syed Saddiq (above) said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

This comes after Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stressed that her ministry has not stopped any construction of infrastructure related to education in any state.

She also urged lawmakers not to make unverified claims based on “hearsay” in the Dewan Rakyat. However, she did not name who she was referring to.

Subsequently, Tan Kar Hing (Harapan-Gopeng) said the minister was probably referring to what Syed Saddiq previously claimed – that Putrajaya wanted to discontinue the construction of multipurpose halls at four schools in his constituency after he left the government bloc.

Syed Saddiq, the Muda president, revealed the withdrawal of his constituency allocation in response to this.

He pointed out that government MPs have received about RM4 million in allocations for the development of their constituencies while opposition MPs have yet to receive any funding.

“The question is, why did the government lawmakers get RM4 million while the opposition got zero?” he asked.

Syed Saddiq withdrew his support to the government last week, following through on his threat to do so if there was no satisfactory explanation from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on the withdrawal of 47 graft charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The AGC has since said the withdrawal was based on cogent reasons.
