Acting Bentong Umno chief denies sponsoring independent

PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Acting Bentong Umno chief Mohamad Zaini Salleh has denied allegations that he was sponsoring Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli, who is entering the Pelangai polls as an independent.

Zaini (above) also denied allegations that he sponsored Haslihelmy after the former was not fielded as a candidate in the by-election.

“Apparently, I was supposed to be (disappointed) that I was not the candidate.

“That is not true. It is slander meant to tarnish my reputation as the acting division head,” he said in a statement.

Zaini said he had nothing to do with Haslihelmy’s decision to run in the polls after BN decided to field Amizar Abu Adam.

The rumours were not started by Haslihelmy, who instead said his decision to run in the race was because Amizar had been rejected by party members during divisional party elections.

Haslihelmy also accused Amizar of not being a local.

In response, Amizar told Pahang media that he would move back to Felda Chemomoi where he was raised, and stay there full-time if he was elected on Oct 7.

“I have a house here. If I am elected, I can stay here permanently,” he said.

He added that he has a farm in Felda Chemomoi and frequently returns.

Apart from Haslihelmy, Azmizar will also be taking on Perikatan Nasional’s Kasim Samat, who is making his second run for Pelangai.
