Saifuddin's aide lodges report over 'apology to Sanusi'

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail's press secretary has lodged a police report over claims that the former has apologised to Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the theft of the state's rare earth resources.

Lodging a report at the Presint 7 police station in Putrajaya, Muhammad Zakwan Mustafa Kamal said that claims about his boss' alleged apology were malicious in nature and meant to ruin the latter's reputation.

"The claims are inaccurate and slanderous. It was deliberately played up by certain quarters to disrupt public order," he told Malaysiakini.

The PKR deputy secretary-general urged the police to immediately probe the claims.

Yesterday, Saifuddin denied apologising to the PAS leader after a claim that he had done so circulated on social media platforms.

This is in relation to Sanusi’s lawsuit against Saifuddin over the latter’s claim that the former abused his position as menteri besar and Menteri Besar Incorporated (Kedah) chairperson to steal - or be complicit in the theft of Kedah’s rare earth resources.

Saifuddin denounced the claim circulating online as untrue and merely slander from Sanusi.

“The case has yet to start. Lawyers from both parties are still dealing with documentation.

“This irresponsible act is clearly a desperate slander from Sanusi who would use any tactic including insults and profanity,” he said.

He challenged Sanusi to stop his alleged slander and face him with arguments and evidence in court.
