Shah Alam Stadium to be demolished before the year ends - Amirudin

The Shah Alam Stadium which served as the home turf for the Selangor football team since 1994 will be demolished before the end of the year as part of plans for the construction of a new Shah Alam Sports Complex.

Sinar Harian quoted Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari as saying that the project is awaiting planning permission approval.

“The stadium will be demolished either early or late October or otherwise early November. That is our target.

“InsyaAllah we will start demolishing this year and it (the new sports complex) will be ready by 2026,” Amirudin reportedly said during the Selangor Property Expo held at Central I-City, Shah Alam.

The Shah Alam Stadium has been closed since 2020 due to various structural issues, particularly on its roof.

Since then, construction of the newer and larger facility was announced last year at an estimated cost of RM787 million, carried out in cooperation with the Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB).

The new facility is reportedly capable of seating up to 45,000 spectators, equipped with modern features including a “retractable pitch” that can convert the football field to accommodate other indoor events.
